50 yen to the dollar in 2011?
If you are interested in the future of the yen to dollar rate I highly recommend Daisuke Uno's recent article in the ekonomisuto 12/23 edition on sale now in Japan.
Here is the title of the article in Japanese:
為替 2009年は1ドル=80円台へ その後も円高続き11年には50円に向かうBasically the author is predicting the yen should stay in the 80's during most of 2009, and then strengthen about 10 points each year until 2011. He sounds very pessimistic about the American economy and Obama especially. He notes correctly that Obama has basically taken on Clinton's economic team, and quite plausibly that they are probably the ones who set the stage for the current financial crisis to begin with. Even if you don't agree with the author, it's a thought provoking article. If I have time next week, I will try to paraphrase some of his arguments in English here. He wrote a book in 2007 the title of which very roughly could be translated as The Demise of American Hegemony. The cover of the book featured a dollar on fire. You get the idea.

Very interesting view of Mr. Uno... it would be useful to know more about his understanding of the actions of the BofJ...
Japanese financial institutions were unscathed by the US credit crisis... no need to recap them... fundamentals still generally good there...
I would be interested in hearing more. Many thanks...
